Jake Shimabukuro has been redefining the capabilities of the ukulele for the last 20 years, and on February 14th, 2020 he returns with his new album 'Trio,' his first on Music Theories Recordings. It was nearly 15 years ago that the world first caught notice of the stunning musical artistry of Jake Shimabukuro. The young ukulele player's gorgeous rendition of George Harrison’s ballad 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' whilst sat in Central Park, became one of the most-watched clips on the then newly launched YouTube platform, and now sits at 16.5m+ views. Guided by producer R.S. Field (Steve Earle, Webb Wilder, John Mayall, Sonny Landreth) Shimabukuro, bassist Nolan Verner, and guitarist Dave Preston holed up in Nashville’s Sound Emporium studio in early 2019 with only a few snippets of riffs and melodies fleshed out, and over the course of a week these jams took flight and became songs. "I really wanted to capture the sound that we make when we jam together," Shimabukuro explains. "We get into this amazing improvisational zone at sound checks: Nolan will play a cool bass line, and Dave will chime in with these incredible guitar parts. Then I'll come in right after and play melodies to what they're doing. So I finally said, 'We should just go into the studio, hit 'record' and see what happens." Music fans will no doubt hail Trio as a high water mark for Shimabukuro.
It’s been said that you don’t see out the blues – it seeks out you. For guitar virtuoso Albert Cummings, no words could ring more true. Cummings' masterful guitar wizardry has drawn comparisons to iconic axe legends Albert King, Freddie King, Jimi Hendrix, and even his own musical inspiration, Stevie Ray Vaughan. He has graced the stage with such esteemed luminaries as Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, Susan Tedeschi, Sheryl Crow, and B.B. King, who called Cummings “a great guitarist”. Freshly signed to Provogue Records, Cummings joins the elite ranks of such guitar legends as Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout, and Eric Gales. Albert Cummings’ new album 'Believe' is available February 14th, 2020 via Provogue Records.
Sonny Landreth’s new album "Blacktop Run" mixes genres and styles across a landscape of lyricism and rootsy grooves. His 3rd album for blues connaisseur label Provogue, and his 14th overall, will be released on February 21, 2020. A percussive burst of acoustic resonator guitar pushes the narrator on a journey “between the life I left and the edge of next” in the title cut of guitarist, songwriter and bandleader Sonny Landreth’s 14th album. As the singer feels the wind at his back, a rising bass line intersects Landreth's vocalizing to stretch the fingerpicked tune into Far Eastern melodicism. The south Louisiana artist's groundbreaking work has long mixed familiarity with experimentation, and his latest ten-song collection stretches from hard-edged electric instrumentals to wistful acoustic ballads. The project's range is the fruit of a renewed collaboration. Producer RS Field – who helmed Landreth's trio of breakout albums – joined the six-stringer and co-producer Tony Daigle to finish the record.
