Nowhere Generation’s unabashedly outspoken 11 songs explore the tight bonds and the distances we share, the struggles of everyday life, our personal failings and triumphs, as well as how the social and economic decks can be stacked against us. But Nowhere Generation also hints at the reclamation of ourselves, a call to resurrect who we are at our core, who we want to be and what we want to do with our lives, despite the rampant weaponizing of our culture. As lyricist Tim McIlrath wrote on “The Numbers”:  …these cold nights are almost unbearable, but purpose keeps us warm.

Nowhere Generation was recorded at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado under the tutelage of Jason Livermore, Andrew Berlin, Chris Beeble and long-time producer/engineer Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, The Descendents) who has worked with the band on nearly all of their acclaimed releases since their sophomore effort, 2003’s Revolutions Per Minute, and is often described as Rise Against’s fifth member.

Laysongs [LP]

ON SALE $20.97 Vinyl: $18.87 Buy

The album is his first truly solo album: just Thile, his voice, and his mandolin, on new recordings of six original songs and three covers, all of which contextualize and banter with his ideas about spirituality. Recorded in a converted upstate New York church during the pandemic, Laysongs’ centerpiece is the three-part “Salt (in the Wounds) of the Earth,” which was inspired by C.S. Lewis’sThe Screwtape Letters. The album also features a song Thile wrote about Dionysus; a performance of the fourth movement of Béla Bartók’sSonata for Solo Violin; “God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot” based on Buffy Sainte-Marie’s adaptation of a Leonard Cohen poem; a cover of bluegrass legend Hazel Dickens’ “Won’t You Come and Sing for Me;” and an original instrumental loosely modeled after the Prelude from J.S. Bach’s Partita for Solo Violin in E Major

Assassin's Creed Valhalla takes place toward the end of the ninth century, a time when Norse tribes were leaving their homes in Scandinavia and sailing to the collection of fractured kingdoms known as Anglo-Saxon England. As you embark on Valhalla's epic Viking journey, you'll lead deadly raiding parties, fight in massive battles, and build up a prosperous settlement, all within the historical backdrop of ninth century England. The soundtrack features songs by Norwegian black metal drummer Einar Selvik (Vikings, Gorgoroth & Wardruna - bands), he is also know by his stage name : Kvitrafn (white raven). Released on June 4, 2021, "Werewolves of Portland" is guitarist extraordinaire Paul Gilbert's new solo album, his sixteenth, on Mascot Label Group / The Players Club. Because the world went into lockdown early 2020, it wasn't possible to get a band to record in the studio. The result was that Paul plays all instruments on this album: drums (except for ONE snareroll that was too difficult to play), keyboards, bass, and of course guitar. As with Paul's previous album Behold Electric Guitar, the inspiration for the songs did not come from the guitar, but from writing lyrics and singing melodies. Paul explains: "The process of writing lyrics, then melody, then guitar, then backing it all up with the other instruments is a wonderful discovery that really started coming together for me on 'Behold Electric Guitar'."

Singer/songwriter/guitarist, John Mayer, said of the track, "This is without a doubt my favorite song of the year. I'm still trying for a tune like this of my own. It's my favorite kind of ballad, 'chin up' sadness that even a cold bastard would get swept away by: 'And if I lived till I could no longer climb my stairs / I just don't think I'll ever get over you.' No further comments." Hay is responsible for some of the most recognizable and well-known pop songs of the 20th Century and attracting a new generation of fans who are responding to Colin's distinct voice and beautiful songwriting through film and television.

Horndal

Lake Drinker

Vinyl: $27.97 Buy

Limited clear colored vinyl LP pressing. Sweden's Horndal return in 2021 with their sophomore album, Lake Drinker, released via Prosthetic Records. Lake Drinker is the heavy soundtrack to a true horror story about a small industrial town in Sweden being brutally murdered, left to rust away, and then fooled into believing in the false hope of prosperity, promised by big American tech. The follow up to 2019's Remains, Lake Drinker is a cautionary tale about making a deal with the devil. But this story of urban decay is not a fairytale or fantasy, it's rooted in the real lives of the citizens of Horndal, retold by a band whose own lives are umbilically linked to the town itself. Recorded in the iconic Studio Gröndahl in Stockholm, Sweden with producer Karl Daniel Lidén (Bloodbath, Katatonia, Crippled Black Phoenix) taking care of recording, mixing and mastering, Lake Drinker is a worthy follow up to their debut. The songs are captured in a raw, organic form, making the album come alive as it weaves it's tale, incorporating elements of sludge, death metal and furious punk attitude. The album features some guest contributions courtesy of Pelle Jacobsson from Sweden's National Radio Symphony Orchestra (classical percussion), Christer Falk and Daniel Johansson (horn arrangements), Johan Jansson of Interment and Dreadful Fate (guest vocals), and last but by no means least the voices of Horndal's own protesters.

Origin of the Alimonies is Liturgy's fifth full-length album and their first to fully integrate Hunter Hunt-Hendrix's vision of total art, or what she calls Perichoresis, with her musical compositions. The music amplifies a dramatic narrative addressing the question of the origin of all things, which itself aesthetically grounds the content of Hunt-Hendrix's ongoing philosophical YouTube series on her System of Transcendental Qabala. The album is by far Liturgy's most meticulous and radical statement, pushing their characteristic synthesis between black metal, minimalism, experimental club music, and 19th-century romanticism to new extremes. Exploring microtonality, free improvisation, polymetric structures and Richard Wagner's ideas of musikdrama and leitmotif, Hunt-Hendrix employs her unique "burst beat" technique to bind together the rhythmic signatures of metal, experimental club and classical music in the service of speech patterns and narrative flow.Featuring the virtuosic playing of bandmates Leo Didkovsky, Tia Vincent-Clark and Bernard Gann, the entire album also includes flute, piano, harp, strings and horns performed by a 8-piece chamber ensemble drawn from New York's various avant-garde music scenes.

Mumps were not your ordinary punk rock band. For starters, they had a genuine TV star as their front-man. Lance Loud and his family were chronicled in PBS’ 1973 docuseries, An American Family, widely considered the first “reality TV show,” set in Santa Barbara, CA. Along with his friend, keyboardist Kristian Hoffman, they formed Loud, who even played on The Dick Cavett Show, when Pat Loud (Lance’s mother) insisted on it, or she wouldn’t appear on the show to promote An American Family. The show was also important, as Lance revealed his homosexuality on it – making him a television pioneer in a second way.

Driven by Lance’s fascination of Andy Warhol, the band moved to NYC, were one of the first bands to play at the legendary CBGB, and became regulars at Max’s Kansas City. Warhol became a fan, calling them one of the greatest bands of their time. They even opened for Van Halen at the Whisky A Go-Go, in 1977!

While their live prowess was never a question, Mumps only released two singles before disbanding, 1977’s “I Like To Be Clean” on BOMP!, and “Rock & Roll This, Rock & Roll That” on Perfect Records the following year. For the first time, a true Mumps “album” exists with the release of Rock & Roll This, Rock & Roll That: Best Case Scenario, You’ve Got Mumps, combining the 5 tracks from those singles with 9 tracks recorded between 1974-1979 compiled by the band’s Hoffman and drummer Paul Rutner. The CD & Digital program adds an addition 9 tracks, including 2 previously unissued tracks from the pre-Mumps band, Loud, which included future Patti Smith Group member Jay Dee Daugherty on drums.

Packaging contains photos, ephemera, and the Mumps story told via contributions from Hoffman, Rutner, bassist Joe Katz, and Pat Loud. So rocket back to the 1970s and experience your new favorite old band: Mumps!

Limited colored vinyl LP pressing. It's common knowledge that a masterpiece can hardly be surpassed. Yet Rotting Christ performed this close to impossible feat in February 2010 with their tenth full-length album, Aealo which managed to strengthen all the features that made it's predecessor Theogonia (2007) so glorious. The Greeks drew heavily from their country's ancient heritage and then went to translate this rich history into the universal language of metal. Their distinct sound and riffing is transformed by traditional female lamenting choirs and ancient reed pipes as well as folkloristic melodies and rhythms into something fresh and fascinating. Aealo includes stunning guest performances by Alan A. Nemtheanga and Diamanda Galas, the latter covering her own "Orders from the Dead."

Limited colored vinyl LP pressing. 2007's Theogonia (Greek for "Birth of the gods") served as the black metal veteran's ninth full-length studio effort overall and first album for Seasons of Mist after nearly a decade with Century Media. The group remained faithful to their ancient blackened-gothic style here while materializing as a faster, more aggressive entity. The established melodies of the past are indeed alive but this new apparition is cloaked with deeper atmospheric and epic elements as they recall the sordid history of their country land. A massive hit, this rare gem yielded the band their highest accolades from both critics and fans alike.

Written and recorded during an extended hiatus from the road, Satsang's extraordinary new album, 'All. Right. Now.,' finds frontman Drew McManus reconnecting with his Montana roots and exploring a whole new palette of sounds and textures, drawing on classic country and modern Americana to forge a joyful, rustic collection all about letting go and living in the moment. McManus produced the album himself, and while the songs here are certainly honest and deeply personal, they're written in a spiritual language that taps into something far more universal, something inherent in the human condition that binds us as brothers and sisters on a shared journey to find ourselves and our place in this world. The performances and arrangements are broad and spacious to match, reflecting the wide-open fields and soaring mountains that surrounded the band during the whirlwind recording process, and the result is a lush, organic collection fueled by acoustic guitars, fiddle, and pedal steel, a warm, inviting record that hints at everything from Uncle Tupelo and The Jayhawks to Gregory Alan Isakov and The Head and the Heart as it meditates on the power-and the pull-of home.

On limited Baby Pink vinyl. Originally released on CD in 2012, Chapter's landmark compilation of 70s gay musicalpioneers gets a vinyl release for the first time ever - and on pink vinyl to boot!Strong Love explores the first wave of openly gay songwriting, emergingafter New York's Stonewall Riots kickstarted the modern gay rightsmovement in 1969. It took just a few years for the defiant chanting andinterlocked arms of early 70s pride marches to reverberate onto record, and Strong Love begins with the earliest known example, 1972's A Gay Songby London hippie collective Everyone Involved.Across 15 tracks, the compilation takes in disarmingly personal folk, uplifting soul, outsider country and dark synth-rock. But tellingly, noneof it's songs could be considered well-known. New York's StevenGrossman released the first major label album by an openly gay artist in1974, and Tom Robinson hit the UK Top 20 with the fiery Glad To Be Gayin 1978, but these are the exceptions. The coy ambivalence of Lou Reedand David Bowie was about as sexually adventurous as the 1970s musicindustry got, and most Strong Love artists released their own self-fundedrecordings in very limited numbers.Unlike their lesbian counterparts, who joined forces to create long-lastingrecord labels, strong distribution networks and considerable sales figures, gay male musicians in the 1970s existed largely in solitary bubbles. Whichdoesn't mean they didn't carve out niches of their own. Chris Robisonplayed with the New York Dolls and Elephant's Memory, while LA glamseducer Smokey saw members of the Stooges and Quiet Riot passthrough his backing band. Steven Grossman was covered by Twiggy andScrumbly & Martin are infamous for their work with San Francisco draghippies the Cockettes.Strong Love illustrate the vision, talent and raw courage that drove 1970ssongwriters to sacrifice popular careers for the sake of honesty and selfexpression. Limited teal colored vinyl LP pressing. A rare artist who's always sounded older than his years, Quinn Sullivan has been touring the world since he was 11-years-old. Having developed genuinely jaw-dropping skills as a guitar player, Sullivan's more recent learning curve has been with pen and paper. Since the release of 2017's Midnight Highway, Sullivan has evolved into the singer-songwriter genre while effectively highlighting his guitar mastery. That's certainly evident on Wide Awake, the now 21-year-old's new album recorded in Los Angeles with producer/collaborator Oliver Leiber. Wide Awake revels in range and assurance while keeping Sullivan's guitar playing front and center on every track. The album is a musical spectrum, from the joyous reverie of the debut single "All Around The World," to the vulnerable, airy, sweet melodicism of "Jessica," the gentle pop of "Real Thing," and the retro-soul groove of "How Many Tears."

Even if we weren’t living through extraordinarily troubling times, there is nothing quite like a Teenage Fanclub album to assuage the mind, body and soul, and to reaffirm that all is not lost in this world.

Endless Arcade follows the band’s ninth album Here, released in 2016. It's quintessential TFC: melodies are equal parts heartwarming and heartaching; guitars chime and distort; keyboard lines mesh and spiral; harmony-coated choruses burst out like sun on a stormy day.

In the 1990s, the band crafted a magnetically heavy yet harmony-rich sound on classic albums such as Bandwagonesque and Grand Prix. This century, albums such as Shadows and Here have documented a more relaxed, less ‘teenage’ Fanclub, reflecting the band’s stage in life and state of mind, which Endless Arcade slots perfectly alongside. The album walks a beautifully poised line between melancholic and uplifting, infused with simple truths. The importance of home, community and hope is entwined with more bittersweet, sometimes darker thoughts - insecurity, anxiety, loss.
