On Rhinestone Tomboy, we are treated to a portrait painted with shades of Byrne's youth, one spent listening to stacks of her mama's dusty 45s, and thrift store 8-tracks blasting from blown speakers out the window of an old Chevy.

A bold musical talent, Leith Ross has an empathetic edge to her work, channeling emotional confessions through softly strummed chords. To Learn is the perfect depiction of this – airy and dreamy, it dips into the sub-conscious only to emerge emboldened. It’s a quietly brilliant and deeply affecting collection of revelatory songs.
Up-and-coming Florida pop-punks Magnolia Park deliver a masterclass in hooks. The band’s incredibly accomplished songwriting is undeniable here. Every chorus feels capable of rewriting the definition of catchy, whether it’s the slick and bouncing or gleefully wry – the ablum manages to do a lot of fantastic things across it’s breezy 23 minutes. Even if you’re sick of pop-punk by this point, they deserve a space in your playlists.
LoganHalstead doesn't like to put himself in a box sonically or stylistically. Still, many would adorn it as Appalachian/Americana music. Above all, it is raw and honest, and the writing wrapped in wisdom one might only think someone two decades older than could conjure. While the masses clamored for more content, Halstead took his time – and the product is timeless.
Living Proof is a testament to the hard work and heartfelt ethos that’s at the center of Drain’s good-time psyche. There are a couple surprises on the album. Rapper Shakewell appears on the track, “Intermission”. There’s also a cover of “Good, Good Things,” a nearly four-decade old melodic punk carol by the Descendents: slam-pit forebearers to Drain if there ever were any.
The eclectic Keep Your Courage comprises nine original songs featuring duets with vocalist Abena Koomson, contributions from the Celtic folk group Lúnasa and Syrian virtuoso clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, and horn arrangements by jazz trombonist Steve Davis. It’s remarkable how much emotion De Souza squeezes out of a few decidedly simple phrases. All of This Will End encapsulates one of the North Carolina singer-songwriter’s other great skills, her ability to look back at parts of her life, even the darkest moments, with curiosity and gratitude, somehow transmuting those experiences into beautiful memories or, in this case, a wonderful album.
