Holy mother of Toledo, it's another Stereolab record that sounds pretty much exactly like every other Stereolab record! Nonsensical title? Check. Time-honored EP format to make sure we all know they're still around and peddling their wares to their diehard fanbase in lieu of actual albums? Check. Ba-ba-ba lyrics concerning we're-sure important stuff that hit the ear like, as a friend put it, they're singing about their pet cat? Check and double check. (Little inside reference for said fanbase there.) This is their first disc since the tragic death of keyboardist/vocalist Mary Hansen in December 2002, so you might imagine there would be something on it that transmits, if not grief, something other than the bright chirpy poppy ultra-cool nonchalance Stereolab has been mining for over a decade. You would be wrong, wrong, wrong.
