'The vocal arrangements were amazing...This group sells out every show - wherever they appear...If you can't hear them live, get that CD!' -- Cabaret Hotline Online Will McMillan, Brian Patton, Michael Ricca and Nina Vansuch came together in 1999 to create At the Movies, an evolving revue that celebrates music from the movies. Since then they have performed all over New England, recently earning a 2003 IRNE for Best Cabaret Group Performance from the Independent Reviewers of New England. After their sold out Scullers debut, Frank Avruch said, 'The blend of voices and especially the arrangements are fresh...the pacing was flawless. I loved the performance.' At the Movies's wide-ranging repertoire features new takes on old favorites from movies including Georgy Girl, Pinocchio, The Aristocats, Casino Royale, Lady & the Tramp, Babe: Pig in the City, Anastasia, Calamity Jane, Where The Boys Are, Tootsie, Wives and Lovers and Heartburn. Brian Patton is the group's pianist and musical arranger. 'Our sound is a high energy mix of solos, duos, and four-part harmony,' explains Patton. 'Once everyone locks in, it can be quite a wall of sound.' In April 2003 these four seasoned performers released their first CD, 'Reel One,' to a sold out audience at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston, MA. 'Reel One' features music from their revues: 'Music of the 1950s & 60s' and 'Fully Animated' plus a few surprises - with songs by Randy Newman, Peggy Lee, Ahrens & Flaherty, Lennon & McCartney, Carly Simon and Bacharach & David among others. Will McMillan, Michael Ricca, and Nina Vansuch met at the 1999 O'Neill Theater Center's Cabaret Symposium. That fall they teamed with Brian Patton to create their first revue of songs, which earned a 2002 IRNE Award nomination from the Independent Reviewers of New England. On 'Reel One' their vocal arrangements are enhanced by Gene Roma (drums), Chris Rathbun (bass) and Sparky Miele (saxophones). 'The talented quartet blends their eccentric humor and superb musicality into a recording that is at first blush highly listenable, yet gets richer with every hearing.' - Bay Windows 'They tweak a tune, change the rhythm a little or alter the context entirely and the happy result is that corny old songs take on a new glow.' - Theater Mirror 'The Audience took obvious delight in their upbeat, playful and even slightly naughty renditions.' - Newburyport News.
