This disc contains transcriptions for woodwinds and piano of some of Mozart's best chamber music. The two late works for mechanical organ closely capture W.A. Mozart must have imagined, while the Sonata for Two Pianos transcribed for two flutes and piano, brings out a virtuosic display. The G major string quartet was transcribed at the suggestion of Jean-Pierre Rampal, who premiered it with his former student, Karl Kraber. Kraber is joined on this CD by flutist Marianne Gedigian, clarinetist Stephen Girko, principal, bassoon player Kristin Wolfe Jensen, and pianist Gregory Allen. The Chamber Soloists of Austin have performed a concert series in Austin, Texas, for twenty-five years, and the Washington Post wrote about them, "If the connection between chamber music and Texas is perhaps not automatic, these strong players... make a fine case for a thriving musical scene there... an exceptional program."
