I guess you could call it a lost album," says Rodney Crowell. "I stumbled upon it in my vault at home. I'd forgotten about it completely." He's referring to Then Again, which he recorded and shelved two decades ago before moving off into new directions. Since then, the album has been biding it's time, waiting for the moment when it's songs would hit hardest. And they hit incredibly hard now, largely because age and experience have granted Crowell a richer perspective. "I'm glad I put it on the shelf, because now is the time for it. It may not be the time for it for the rest of the world, but it's time for it for me. That's why I wanted to call it Then Again. I thought that was a clever way of saying that what was happening then is happening now. Once lost and now found, Then Again is something the Rodney Crowell of the 2000s could never have predicted but something the Rodney Crowell of the 2020s recognizes instinctively: a work of nuance, insight, and sensitivity that considers death but celebrates life. "I'm trying to understand that this spirit of mine is going to leave this body and go off somewhere else. Jamaican singer born in Clarendon, Jamaica on June 27, 1956. At age seven, he started singing backup for a local ska harmony duo called The Clarendonians and did his first recordings aged 10 years with the name "Little Freddie" or "Young Freddie", and as a duo with Ernest Wilson aka "Freddie & Fitsy". McGregor stayed at Studio One for much of the '70s. He sang lead for groups like Generation Gap and Soul Syndicate, and also recorded off and on as a solo act during the '70s. In 1975, McGregor converted to Rastafarianism. Freddie McGregor's debut album Mr. McGregor was released in 1979. The album opens with "We Got Love" featuring a Tower of Power influenced horn section underneath McGregor's tale of love conquering all. The classic "Rastaman Camp" combines muted horn and an earthy, Nyahbinghi-like chorus for one of producer Niney's deeper constructions, but the lightweight fare is equally welcome as the easy strolling and not too sugary version of "Brandy" displays. Mr. McGregor is available as a limited numbered edition of 750 copies on orange coloured vinyl.

Future Development is Del the Funky Homosapien’s third album and, following his departure from major label Elektra, his first solo full-length for his independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings. Originally released on cassette in 1997, and later reissued on CD and vinyl in 2002, the album largely relied on in-house production from Del along with contributions from Hiero crew members A-Plus, Opio, and Toure. The only guest feature on the album is from crew member Casual, who joins Del on the energetic “Checking Out The Rivalry.”

Demon Records as part of a wider and ongoing catalogue initiative are pleased to be making 'Lord Upminster' the second solo album from the iconic, much-missed Ian Dury available once more on classic black vinyl, long out of print since 1990 other than within 'The Vinyl Collection' Box Set released in 2014. Released in 1981, the album followed his final album on Stiff 'Laughter' (with The Blockheads) and was Ian's first album with Polydor Records. At a suggestion of Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, Ian Dury flew to the Bahamas to record 'Lord Upminster at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, newly reunited with his long-time collaborator Chaz Jankel. There they were to work with reggae rhythm duo Sly Dunbar (drums) and Robbie Shakespeare (bass guitar) and keyboardist Tyrone Downie, while backing vocals came from amongst others no less than Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club fame, along with her sister Laura Weymouth. The album covers a diverse range of musical styles reflecting Dury's influences and background in pub rock, early rock and roll and British music hall whilst also taking in funk and post disco rhythms and is notable for featuring a Sly Dunbar composition in 'Girls (Watching)'. There was also not least the single which was deemed controversial enough to be banned from the airwaves 'Spasticus (Autisticus)' which was Ian's protest against the International Year of Disabled Persons, which he considered to be patronising and insensitive. Years later the now critically lauded song was broadcast live worldwide during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Paralympics, performed by Orbital and members of the Graeae Theatre Company.

A decade ago, three employees of JJ's Market and Cafe became Styrofoam Winos. Lou Turner, Trevor Nikrant, and Joe Kenkel bonded over their mutual adoration for Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, and dollar bin country records. Styrofoam Winos have always gone with the flow, which makes Any River an apt title for their new album, the follow-up to 2024's Real Time. Their playful approach is bolstered by the chops of seasoned musicians who have performed many hundreds of concerts, both together and as touring members of Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band, MJ Lenderman and the Wind, and as solo artists. Each song on Any River came out of jam sessions at Turner and Nikrant's home studio, and a shared Google doc of lyrics soon followed. They recorded in Louisville-their first album made outside of Nashville-with Roadhouse bandmate and Equipment Pointed Ankh mastermind Jim Marlowe. Marlowe's understated production kept the band's unique synergy on full display. Styrofoam Winos manage to strike a perfect balance between reverence and irreverence for the musical traditions they're working within. Their knowledge of the canon is scholarly, but such knowledge is always followed by a wink. It's the music of experienced shapeshifters, defying easy categorization while remaining instantly recognisable.

Comprised of four standards - 'Things Ain't What They Used to Be,' 'Body and Soul,' 'Pannonica,' and 'Round Midnight' - this set is one of Shepp's most enjoyable ever. The reasons are myriad, but it is in large part due to the fluid, loping bass of Richard Davis. Recorded in a club in front of a live audience, Shepp digs deep into his own history of influential tenor players and comes out not wanting, but on par with them, from Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis to Sonny Rollins to John Coltrane. His playing here is big, meaty, and warm, full of subtle emotions as well as bleating cries. Davis' sense of time and melody is nearly incredible on the title track and on 'Round Midnight.' The interplay Shepp shares with him is tasty, coming from fragmentary elements in Monk's changes; Shepp and Davis move around the lyric and cut to the heart of the tune's color and ambiguity. It's a haunting version and one that offers a completely different reading of the tune over 17 minutes. For Kevin Morby, the “little wide open” is the big sky, the small lives, it’s his origins in the Midwest, and every duty and modesty and familiarity and isolation: the land, the people, and the parts of that inside him. “There’s something unintentionally musical about the Midwest; cicadas chirping in the trees, a train passing, a tornado siren going off,” explains Morby. “If you listen, there are these almost ominous sounds taking place beneath the wide-open sky—its ugliness and its beauty and how the two are often working together simultaneously. And while the Midwest isn’t technically the badlands, it’s my badlands.”
Little Wide Open is the title of Kevin Morby’s eighth studio album, produced by Aaron Dessner. In the summer of 2024, Dessner had asked Morby to support The National at their London show in Crystal Palace Park. Shortly after, Dessner—who was on a hot streak, having produced albums for Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Gracie Abrams—reached out to Morby to say he’d love to produce his next album. They began recording at Aaron’s Long Pond Studio in Stuyvesant, NY, early in 2025 and finished in September of that year.
The album, which features a host of contributors such as Dessner—who plays multiple instruments across it—Amelia Meath, Andrew Barr, Justin Vernon, Katie Gavin, Lucinda Williams, Meg Duffy, and more, has been described by Morby as the third in a trilogy of releases, following 2020’s Sundowner and 2022’s This Is a Photograph, which catalogued his time in the Midwest after moving back to Kansas City. This time out, Dessner’s production elevates Morby’s recordings while never losing focus of the songs themselves. There’s a newfound confidence and clarity in both Morby’s writing and Dessner’s production that recalls Tom Petty’s 1994 classic Wildflowers.
Now primarily living in LA, the atmosphere that runs through Little Wide Open has changed somewhat from its predecessors. Later reissues (including CD's) were dubbed from old vinyl LPs with even poorer sound quality - until now! After years of searching, safety master tapes were found in New York which meant the very best sound could be achieved. Not known for his acoustic work, Buddy Guy unplugs for a rare album-length excursion into folk blues. The guitarist gets down and dirty with 12 tracks that sound like they were recorded after hours in his living room or on his back porch. Guy's stinging leads are still evident as is his emotive voice, but both are less flamboyant in the unplugged setting. Accompanied by spare stand-up bass and brushed drums, Guy sounds nearly supernatural on covers from Skip James ("Hard Time Killing Floor"), Johnny Shines ("Moanin' and Groanin'"), Son House ("Louise McGhee"), and John Lee Hooker ("Sally Mae") among others. It's a low-key, low-down affair made for late nights, rainy days, and the saddest of moods. Buddy Guy is just as convincing here, arguably more so, as on his barnstorming electric albums, making Blues Singer one of the bravest and most poignant albums in his catalogue. Sultans Ghost Ship LP was originally released on Sympathy For The Record Industry in 2000. While RFTC looked for a new drummer, Speedo (armed with an 8 track tape machine and 3 microphones) devised yet another alias as "Slasher" and concocted this primordial ooze of moped scuzz, punk rock and roll. Ghost Ship was met with enthusiasm by those seeking blistering relief from the weak, whiny, wretched and wimpy wannabes du jour. The sound is full on, straight ahead with only starting gates and finish lines between songs. The band played some shows around California and would slightly evolve on their second LP Shipwrecked. Ghost Ship is Sultans at their most thuggish and hairiest. Taking inspiration from Australia's Chosen Few, Ramones bootlegs, Misfits bootlegs and then challenging themselves to be as thrifty and impatient as possible, the songs are intentionally brief, similar and burly. After this was recorded these tapes lay dormant in a shed for over 20 years. When the tapes were recently unearthed it revealed unreleased songs recorded after Ghost Ship yet before the band's follow up LP Shipwrecked. Some of these songs would later be absorbed by RFTC and re-recorded. These songs are included here as bonus tracks and offer no relief to the record's unrelenting pace.

The album title itself, drawn from author Alex Shakar's satirical portmanteau of "paradoxical" and "essence," reflects these tensions directly: the paradessence of consumer product is the "schismatic core" that gives rise to it's desirability (in Shakar's example, coffee is desired because it is both relaxing and stimulating simultaneously). The balancing act of Paradessence brings these strains into greater urgency as life in the 21st century is reordered by these same tensions.Silence is an important character in Paradessence, felt not only in the sculpting of sound but in the pressure it exerts on everything and what emerges. The group took influence from architectural theorist Christopher Alexander's concept of "positive space," an idea that the same degree of care can be given to the shape of the void around an object as the construction of the object itself. We hear how sounds carry their own silence, oscillating in and out of existence, running through life cycles like a microorganism.There is a collectivity to the instruments that underpin Paradessence. They move like a herd, as when wind drifts over a field of leaves and the air becomes visible in the absence of motion; multiple species cohabit the same song, protruding, receding, and transforming over the course of several minutes. "Instead of creating pieces that function horizontally as environments," says Doran, "we wanted to conceptualize them as living material changing in space, continually in flux." Song-forms steer away from ambience towards pure abstraction. Utopianism hovers at the edges; a relationship to imagined futures which is neither naĂŻve, cynical, nor nostalgic.

Michigander – the acclaimed indie rock project led by Nashville-based singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jason Singer – has announced his sophomore album Over Before You Know It, out Friday, July 31 2026 via Totally Normal Records / Thirty Tigers.
Jason Singer thought his 2025 full-length debut as Michigander would change everything about his life and work. During the prior decade, after all, Singer had cobbled together the start of a successful career as an incisive and infectious songwriter from the stuff the music industry considers scraps—a half-dozen singles and a quartet of EPs, collectively suggesting he was one of indie rock’s sharpest new tunesmiths. The debut album Michigander felt only like the upper lip of the plateau Singer had been climbing for a decade already. So what, he wondered, was he supposed to do now? The answer that came back was obvious: Keep writing.
'Over Before You Know' It is the magnetic and relatable result of that work and the broad but detailed view from the top of that plateau. Across 10 songs written and recorded quickly with a crew of close friends at home in Nashville, Singer mixes self-criticism with music industry sendups, sad-eyed contemplations with unguarded love songs, offering up the things that almost stopped him and those that now keep him going with a rare admixture of candor and catchiness. This, it turns out, is the level up.
Above all, it is all a vehicle for Singer to think about becoming the person he still wants to be, for being grateful enough for what he already has to keep going. To be there is to be human. Just like our musical heroes The Beatles, Rolling Stones, or even Jimi Hendrix—all artists who honed their craft by learning cover songs from the legends before them—we did the same as youngsters and still enjoy paying tributes and recording cover songs today. HOMAGE is our new album that not only pays tribute to legends but gives us a chance to showcase our lead singer’s diversity as well as the musical dynamics we learned as a band many years ago. And now, our new album HOMAGE is a thank-you note written in sound. It is an offering to the great singers and songs that shaped the music we grew up listening to and the songs we would eventually write. Each track showcases Jeff Keith’s incredible vocal ability. Something that may have been overlooked throughout our long career. But not by our fans.........!!! HOMAGE isn’t about imitation. It’s about acknowledgment. Everything I Ever Saw finds THE MENZINGERS entering a new era in what’s already been a storied career. The Philadelphia punk legends’ eighth album chronicles moments of significant change—the personal, the political, and the universal—while returning to the core creative principles that first put them on the map with listeners the world over. THE MENZINGERS have always created as a four-headed unit, with all members (vocalist/guitarist Greg Barnett, vocalist/guitarist Tom May, bassist Eric Keen, drummer Joe Godino) throwing in their respective talents as part of the craft—but for Everything I Ever Saw, the group worked in creative symbiosis more than ever before. “The way we made this record feels the most like how the band was in the very beginning: Me and Tom coming to the band with the most basic element of a song, and the four of us shaping that,” Barnett says.
Instrumental in building that excitement was locally centered and nationally renowned production legend Will Yip, who threw in with the Menzingers on 2017’s After the Party and their sonically expansive 2019 record Hello Exile. This time around, Yip once again became an unofficial Menzinger while the band crafted these 11 songs in their South Philly space. “Working with Will was like a homecoming,” May beams while talking about Yip’s contributions. “We’ve grown up together over these years, and we’re still incredibly close friends. He’s the best at gassing you up and making sure everybody’s on the right page, but he’s also so good at pointing out stuff that might not fit the vision without being a fucking prick. He’s the hardest working person that we’ve come across in the music industry, and he’s incredibly inspiring.”

If you think, based on "Tiptoe Thru' the Tulips with Me" and his nationally televised marriage to Miss Vicki on The Tonight Show, that Tiny Tim was a mere novelty act, think again. Behind that ukulele, pasty white make-up, falsetto, and prominent proboscis was a serious scholar of American music, perhaps the only performer of the '60s (and certainly the only performer of his age group) keeping the torch alive for songs from vaudeville and Tin Pan Alley. Tim (born Herbert Buckingham Khaury) also was blessed with a stupendous vocal range, from baritone to his trademark falsetto, and was adept on not just ukulele but guitar, mandolin, and violin. Even with all that talent, though, had Tiny Tim just made a straight '20s trad jazz/pop/folk album for his debut record, God Bless Tiny Tim would not be the stone-cold cult classic it is today. But the album married Tim's innate eccentricity with stupendously lush production from Richard Perry, who was fresh from working on Captain Beefheart's debut, Safe as Milk, and would go on to produce everybody from Diana Ross to Rod Stewart. With Perry's production, and Artie Butler's arrangements, God Bless Tiny Tim featured an incredible assortment of instruments, from didgeridoo to koto to celeste to tympani, with nary a ukulele to be found on many of the tracks. Furthermore, the album was sprinkled with some of the psychedelic fairy dust that was in the air at the time (1968), full of non sequiturs both verbal and musical (like the cover of Sonny Bono's "I Got You Babe"). The result: an album that stands outside of time, defying categorization or description. Now, Real Gone Music is releasing God Bless Tiny Tim on LP in an oh-so-appropriate yellow with magenta "Tulip Splatter" edition. This record belongs in any serious-or not-so-serious!-record collection.

"NoLifeTilMetal Records and Gammacide are teaming up to re-release the original Texas thrash metal masterpiece Victims of Science on strictly limited edition vinyl and CD.Gammacide is an aggressive thrash metal band with a very short but powerful history. When Texas metal pioneers Warlock disbanded in 1985, guitarist Rick Perry and Eric Roy formed thrash band Gammacide. Joined by drummer Jamey Milford and vocalist Varnam Ponville, Gammacide released a 5-song demo in 1987 which made the band a cult favorite amongst the metal fanzine and tape traders of the time. Scott Shelby joined in 1988 as a second guitarist, thus doubling the bands crushing guitar assault. In the summer of 1989 entered Sound Logic Studios in Dallas to record their debut Victims of Science, which was released in early 1990 on Wild Rags Records, becoming one of the label's bestselling records.Gammacide recorded a 4-song demo in 1991 but by 1992 the band folded. In the late 90's and early 2000's the internet gave new exposure to Gammacide and created interest in Texas metal's most intense thrash experience. After many years of inactivity, Victims Of Science album was reissued on CD in 2005, and the band briefly reunited for a Texas tour to commemorate "20 Years of Toxic Metal." The following year, Perry and Shelby joined forces with Rigor Mortis vocalist Bruce Corbitt and formed Texas Metal Alliance, which was eventually renamed Warbeast and recorded their debut CD Krush The Enemy for Phil Anselmo's Housecore Records. Singer/Songwriter Joshua Ray Walker’s made a name for himself with poignant, human portraits of flawed, fascinating characters. Now, on his latest album, Ain’t Dead Yet, Walker’s telling a more personal story – his own.
“Human beings are super multi-faceted, and part of the reason I wrote about characters in the first place was because I could explore things about myself that I didn't feel comfortable exploring if I were to admit that it was really about me,” Walker says. “All my songs are about parts of me, I just didn't try to stick them on another fictional character this time.”
Beneath the album’s flippant title resides some of Walker’s heaviest storytelling yet. Three years ago, when he started writing Ain’t Dead Yet (his sixth studio album, to be released May 29 via Thirty Tigers/East Dallas Records), Walker hadn’t yet received the cancer diagnosis that rearranged and threatened his life (he currently has a clean bill of health). But that year was still uncommonly fraught with mental, physical, and career stresses. Pulling the songs out of the can to finalize them for the album – including re-writing and re-working almost all the songs – Walker, who was then undergoing and recovering from cancer treatment, was surprised by their prescience.
“That whole year I just felt awful and like I was dying. I didn't feel right, and mentally I was off, like there really was something wrong the whole time,” Walker says. “So I think the reason some of these songs feel the way they do is because I felt that way, even though I didn't know something was wrong yet.”
“Memory lane is a freeway now,” Walker sings on “Chasing Sunsets,” a cinematic Laurel Canyon sound-inspired song all about the unease in life’s liminal moments. The idea came to Walker while chasing the last of the daylight across the California desert on a 22-hour drive from his home in Dallas to a co-writing session in Los Angeles (where he finished the song). Though all but one verse were written before cancer, the song’s melancholy belays Walker’s uncertainty, and revisits a familiar thread in some of Walker's best-known songs: reckoning with life’s worth and mortality (“Canyon,” “Voices,” “Flash Paper”). “Chasing sunsets / Where the light starts to bend / The darkness / Is where the end begins,” he sings; after all, when the sun sinks into darkness at day’s end, it’s always hard to believe it will rise again.
Throughout the album, Walker grapples with big life questions – a reluctance to pass down his flawed genes (“Blue Genes”); the importance of being content to put one foot in front of the other rather than dream big, sometimes (“Stepping Stones”); and on the loping Texas dance hall track “Some People,” Walker tries his hand at a John Prine-esque consideration of human nature, cautioning against short-sighted assumptions about other peoples’ situations.
Ain’t Dead Yet is often lyrically somber, but sonically, it’s reminiscent of Walker’s early albums, relying on pedal steel and fiddle as much as Walker’s consummate guitar picking, sweet tenor, and high falsetto and yodel. The album was recorded before, during, and after cancer treatment
(including three songs the day before the lung surgery that could have changed his voice forever) and at three Dallas, TX studios: Audio Dallas, Modern Electric, and album producer and long-time collaborator John Pedigo’s home studio.
Coming out the other side of a fight with cancer offered Walker a second chance. But the angst inherent to facing death and the requisite perspective on the past figure thematically across the album, as well. “I live with few regrets / Played my cards far from the vest / I’ve always been my biggest threat / But I ain’t dead yet,” Walker sings on the title and opening track. Equal parts defiant and bittersweet, it sets up Ain’t Dead Yet as a reflection on his last few years. Fittingly, the album concludes with a softer bookend, “Thank You For Listening,” which is a sincere note to Walker’s listeners.
Though the songs on Ain’t Dead Yet are more overtly about Walker than on his past albums, he still plays around with character, at times embodying his most outrageous selves: “Every hat’s a cowboy hat / If it’s sitting on my head / Just like every girl’s a cowgirl / If she’s laying in my bed,” he sings on “Outlaw.” The first of those lyrics is a real line Walker delivered once on a tour in response to a fan, who thought he should wear a cowboy hat to sing country music. A rare moment when Walker felt he’d said something exquisitely cool in the moment, he jotted it down and later wrote the whole song. (Walker imagines “Outlaw” delivered by the self-aggrandizing titular character of his song “Cowboy” (released on 2021’s See You Next Time)). Elsewhere on the album for “Shoot Me Straight,” Walker brought back the horn section from “Sexy After Dark,” to add bravado to a song all about his brashest moments. And in “Texas Sober,” Walker pokes fun at the arbitrary rules for living well he’s watched both himself and friends set.
Song ideas come to Walker from many places, and he honors two of the most personal ones on “Capital Letters.” Written for two important mentors – Walker’s grandpa (about whom he wrote his first song ever, “Fondly,” which was released on his 2019 debut, Wish You Were Here), and Trey Johnson, co-founder of State Fair Records, Walker’s first label – the song is Walker’s way of honoring the roles these long-gone loved ones still play in his life. Sometimes he finds himself talking to them, seeking their advice; others he even wonders if they have some hand in the songs he writes.
Ain’t Dead Yet is Walker’s time capsule of the past three years. Standing on the other side, it’s also a dedication to the future. “I'm really grateful to have a second chance, and I'm also grateful to have lived through thinking I was going to die. It gives you perspective in a way you really can't fake until you've actually done it; in a way, it was kind of a gift,” Walker says, though sometimes a new beginning also feels like a lot to live up to.
“I faced death; I almost lost my house; I got engaged; We lost most of our belongings to flood and mold; I’ve had loved ones die; I almost lost my entire music catalog. It's been a lot, good and bad. I'm just a much different person,” he continues. “I'm very intentional with my time, and I'm a lot happier, even though things have been hard, I genuinely do think I'm happier. It's been a pretty wild transformation.”

Marvin Gaye always dreamed of being a smooth crooner, "sitting on a stool, possibly behind a piano," delivering velvety songs like Nat King Cole. But Motown had other plans. Pushed between raw R&B and polished pop, Gaye fought to find his own voice, eventually rising to become one of the greatest soul singers in history. Motown Records released the first Marvin Gaye record in 1961 "(I'm Afraid) The Masquerade Is Over", a single intended for (radio) promotion from the singer's debut album. This was followed up by the officially released "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide" a week later. Gaye scored his first real hit with "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" in 1962, which he had co-written himself, joking about his alleged stubbornness. He found his own unique style with the single released at the end of the year: "Hitch Hike". The foundations were now laid for an enormous series of chart successes: "Pride And Joy", "Can I Get A Witness", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "Ain't That Peculiar" are all Motown classics from 1963-1965 which are still being regularly played today after all these years. The duets he recorded with Kim Weston ("It Takes Two"), especially Tammi Terrell and Diana Ross were certainly at least as good. He scored his biggest ever hit with "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" in 1968. "What's Going On" from the same titled album became a number 1 hit in the USA and the album was received as a masterpiece and is regarded as one of the most important records in pop history. In 1973, the artistically and commercially very successful, "Let's Get It On" album was mainly a musical ode to Marvin's love for his new muse Janis Hunter. His journey continued after a turbulent relationship, addiction and a dramatic creative rebirth in Belgium, where he crafte the global hit "Sexual Healing" in 1982. Marvin Gaye left behind timeless hits, groundbreaking albums, and a legacy that shaped the sound of modern soul. His story, from ambition to artistry, from struggle to brilliance, remains as powerful as the music he created. For well over a decade, MONOLORD have caused mass riff hypnosis with longform epics steeped in repetition, volume, and heaviness. One of heavy music’s most consistent and beloved bands, MONOLORD are gearing up for their next chapter with a new album titled Neverending.
In looking for a new take on the genre, MONOLORD approached the legendary producer Sylvia Massy, known for her work with Tool, System of a Down, and Johnny Cash, among many more. The payoff from this new process is undeniable. Neverending feels like the culmination of 13 years of heavy, molten music, with a keen eye towards creating a sharper album. “The recording of this album is an example of the spirit of MONOLORD’s camaraderie,” says bassist Mika Häkki. “We’ve looked back and seen for the first time how much we have done as a band collectively, and realized what an intense 13 years it has been.”
"The lyrics on this album are more personal than before because I went through some major life changes in the last couple of years,” guitarist/vocalist Thomas Jäger says. “I usually write about religion and how people are superstitious, but this record is more about relationships between people. But it’s not all about me. Sometimes I’m writing from another person’s perspective.”
Neverending’s lead single “You Bastard” offers listeners a sharp contrast: A propulsive groove offset by lyrics about suicide. There’s two sides to suicide,” Jäger points out. “There’s the person who commits suicide and the people who gets left behind...The choruses represent the person left behind, and that person is calling the other a bastard—but it’s not pointing fingers or saying, ‘You suck.’ It’s more like, ‘You left me here with all the bullshit.’ It’s an understanding that life is not easy."
Though it might not be immediately obvious, album opener “Iodine” was inspired by 70's rock epics like Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird,” The Eagles’ “Hotel California,” and Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter." Elsewhere, album closer “It’s Neverending” is the first MONOLORD song that Jäger doesn’t sing on. Instead, the death-metal style vocals are performed by former Entombed bassist Jörgen Sandström, (also of Grave, Domedagen and Firespawn.)
13 years on, MONOLORD’s path takes a new turn, and Neverending becomes the band’s most befitting album title. “It's been a wild ride and still is,” says drummer Esben Willems. “I've spent a quarter of my life in this band. Looking back, I'm incredibly proud of what we've accomplished along the way, and in many ways, this album feels like the essence of everything we've done so far. My mindset is the same it's always been, to be the absolute best the three of us can be.”

Israel Vibration are a reggae harmony group, originating from Kingston, Jamaica. Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Cecil "Skelly" Spence all contracted childhood polio, and went on to be a Jamaican roots reggae group in the 1970s. The trio initially met as children at a rehabilitation center.
